YOU, ME & TUSCANY

*CUT TO THE CHASE*

NOTE: This spoiler was submitted by Jeremy

The film opens as Anna Montgomery (Halle Bailey) is waking up to a morning routine in New York City (exercise, getting food, walking a dog), only for it to be revealed she is just a housesitter for a woman named Mrs. Dunn (Nia Vardalos), and Anna is wearing that woman’s clothes and walking her dog. Mrs. Dunn promptly fires her.

Anna’s narration explains that she was raised by a single mother who inspired her love for cooking and encouraged Anna’s dreams of becoming a chef. However, after her mother passed away, Anna dropped out of culinary school and put her dreams on hold. While working as a housesitter, she has pretended to live other people’s lives in order to hide the fact that her own life is not glamorous.

Anna visits her best friend Claire (Aziza Scott) at her hotel job. Claire gives Anna access to the hotel bar and lounge, where Anna meets a handsome Italian man named Matteo Costa (Lorenzo de Moor). After learning about Anna’s culinary talents, Matteo tells her about a house that he has in Tuscany that is empty and that he hasn’t been to in a long time. He invites Anna back up to his room, but after she gets ready, she sees Matteo has already fallen asleep. She decides to sleep next to him.

In the morning, Anna finds a note from Matteo about having to catch an early flight, but he allows her to order breakfast from the hotel. She invites Claire up to the room and tells her that she plans to fly to Tuscany with barely $500 to visit Matteo’s villa. Claire thinks it’s a bad idea and that Anna will get in trouble for it.

Anna flies to Italy and arrives in the town of San Conessa. She meets and befriends a driver named Lorenzo (Marco Calvani), who takes her into town. Because of the summer festival that week, every hotel in the area is booked up. Anna goes to a shop and tries to order a sandwich, but a man named Michael (Rege-Jean Page) shows up for an order and takes the sandwich that Anna wanted. She goes to confront him, especially since he almost drove in front of her, and she calls him out for being rude. Michael just gives Anna the rest of his sandwich before leaving.

With nowhere else to go, Anna finds the address to Matteo’s villa from some pics she had AirDropped from his phone. She sleeps there but is startled in the morning when Matteo’s mother Gabriella (Isabella Ferrari) and his nonna Alessia (Stefania Casini) show up at the house. Anna tries to escape but is caught by them. Alessia calls the police but Gabriella notices that Anna is wearing an engagement ring she found in one of Matteo’s drawers. Gabriella assumes this means that Anna is marrying Matteo, which Anna just goes along with to avoid getting arrested when Alessia calls the cops. Anna is overwhelmed and calls Lorenzo to take her away, but he helps calm her down and convince her to try and tell the truth.

Gabriella is elated that Matteo found someone, as it is said that he left home over a year ago and has been seen as a bad guy for abandoning his family’s restaurant business. Gabriella invites other family, including her sister Francesca (Stella Pecollo) and Matteo’s younger brother Enzo (Tomasso Cassissa) for lunch, along with Matteo’s hard-to-please father Vincenzo (Paolo Sassanelli). To Anna’s surprise, Michael shows up, since he is Gabriella’s nephew and has been like a brother to Matteo. Anna also meets Isabella (Desiree Popper), Matteo’s jealous ex-fiance.

The next day, Anna tries to leave, but Gabriella invites her to the vineyard where the wedding would take place. She joins Michael around the area and tastes wine with him. After a few glasses, Anna runs into the vineyard to eat fresh grapes, but the sprinklers are set off and Anna runs to avoid getting her hair wet. Michael takes his shirt off to cover her head, revealing his abs to her, as well as a group on tour in the vineyard.

Michael accompanies Anna back to the villa, where he learns about her passion for cooking and how she stopped after her mom died. Michael also mentions losing his parents and how Matteo’s family treated him like a son. After Michael leaves, Anna calls Lorenzo and worries she is starting to develop feelings for Michael.

Anna wakes up the next morning to find that Matteo is at the villa, having learned from Isabella that Anna told the family about their “engagement”. Anna agrees to tell the family the truth, but after seeing how happy she has made them and how elated they are that he has returned home, Matteo agrees to keep the lie going a little longer, as he does not want the family to be crushed so soon.

The family later gathers in town for a barrel-rolling competition for the festival. Michael and Matteo partner up to compete, but they have an unsettled rift that causes them to fight in the middle of the race, and Matteo pushes Michael out of the way, which upsets the family.

Later, Vincenzo suffers a fall and ends up in the hospital. Unable to work at the restaurant for the last day of the festival, the family convinces Anna to help as a sous chef, even though she hasn’t cooked since her mom died. After a few failed starts, Anna is able to come up with a new dish that was inspired by her mom. Vincenzo loves it, and so do the other customers who show up at the restaurant. With everyone in high spirits, Matteo suggests to Anna that they really to get married since they could make it work.

Everything seems great until Michael catches Matteo and Isabella kissing. He confronts Matteo, who is drunk and figures that Michael likes Anna. The two get into a physical altercation in front of the family, which forces Anna to come clean about everything. She gives Matteo his ring back and agrees to leave.

The next day, Anna is dropped off by Lorenzo at the bus station. She misses the bus and falls asleep there, only to be found by Alessia, who speaks English to her for the first time. Despite Anna’s lies, Alessia notes that Anna brought the family back together, and the rest of the family, including Matteo, has already forgiven her. They encourage her to go after Michael.

Anna takes Matteo’s car to the vineyard to find Michael. Although he is upset at the lie, he does not deny it when Anna says they both fell for each other. The sprinklers go off again, but instead of running, Anna takes Michael’s hand and kisses him, just as another tour of people watch them.

One month later, Anna has decided to stay in Tuscany to be with Michael, as well as to work for the Costa family’s restaurant, now being accepted as one of their own.
