A NICE GIRL LIKE YOU

*CUT TO THE CHASE*

NOTE: This spoiler was submitted by Jeremy

The film starts with Lucy Neal (Lucy Hale) practicing explicit language in the bathroom. She cannot bring herself to say certain words out loud and isn’t comfortable using them, so she starts shouting until it sounds more natural to her, only for an older woman to come in and awkwardly look at Lucy.

One month earlier, we see Lucy with her boyfriend Jeff (Stephen Friedrich) as they are being intimate, but she doesn’t seem to be into it and disappoints Jeff with her lack of expressing herself or overall knowledge of intimacy. While he is asleep, Lucy looks at Jeff’s laptop and finds that he is interested in adult content, and he wishes Lucy would be more like the people in those videos. They have an argument over this and they break up, with Jeff moving out of the apartment.

Lucy joins her violin quartet – Nessa (Jackie Cruz), Priscilla (Mindy Cohn), and Paul (Adhir Gulyan) – at a wedding, but she breaks down and tells them that Jeff left her because she can’t fulfill his desires. After some comforting and encouragement from the three, Lucy decides to make a list of things to improve her intimacy issues, with the following goals listed in order:

  1. Watch 25 adult films
  2. Go to an adult store
  3. Read explicit novels
  4. Visit a strip club
  5. Attend a sex toy party
  6. Attend a seminar on intimacy
  7. Test adult products
  8. Watch explicit content online
  9. Consult a professional for advice
  10. Explore an adult establishment
  11. Meet an adult industry performer
  12. Use explicit language convincingly in a sentence

She attempts #12, as seen earlier, but stops after the older woman comes in. Lucy is also overheard by a wedding guest, Grant (Leonidas Gulaptis), as she starts to express her frustration. He comes in to comfort her and helps her get back outside after some friendly chatting.

Lucy starts by watching adult content at home and reads a sensual novel that surprises her by arousing her. The next morning, Nessa and Priscilla come over to help Lucy get over Jeff, but instead, she invites them to an adult store. They look at some adult products, and Lucy mistakenly applies a product meant for oral pleasure on her lips just as Grant enters the store. They chat some more, and Lucy finds herself attracted to him. Another customer asks for their help in buying something, thinking they work there, and Lucy mistakenly recommends a product, only to discover it is not what she thought it was. Grant helps her to handle the situation, and Lucy leaves with her friends and an inflatable doll.

Later that night, Lucy joins Paul at a strip club he visits regularly. She finds herself impressed by the dancing onstage, but when she sees that all she has is a $20 bill for a tip, Lucy awkwardly tries to take charge from the dancer, which gets her and Paul kicked out.

Lucy and her friends attend a sex toy party where Lucy brings home, among other things, adult toys that she later uses on herself. She attends an event that evening where the quartet is performing, but since she is still walking around with the toys, she starts to feel the need to excuse herself. To make things more awkward, Grant is there and asks Lucy to dance. She agrees, at which point some of the toys start to fall out onto the floor. Grant asks her out to dinner, at which point she pleasurably accepts, just as the last toy falls.

Thinking she may become physically intimate with Grant, Lucy asks Jeff how she was in bed. He answers that it wasn’t great. She then goes with her friends to a seminar on intimacy, which leaves them feeling empowered.

Lucy goes on her dinner date with Grant, and they later attend a live taping for talk show host Dr. Becker (Skye P. Marshall) since Priscilla gave Lucy tickets. Dr. Becker’s guest is an expert in relationships and intimacy, Madame Swarovska (Nadia Quinn), who invites Lucy to share her experiences. She senses Lucy’s desire to learn and encourages Grant to show her a fulfilling time.

In between her newfound explorations, Lucy is practicing for an audition with the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. She meets up with Grant again, where they connect intimately and have a pleasurable experience. In the morning, however, Grant is taken aback when he sees the amount of items related to intimacy in her room, along with pregnancy pants that Lucy bought purely for comfort. They have a conversation, and Grant explains that he freaked out because he mistook the pants for a sign of pregnancy. They share a laugh about the misunderstanding and continue their connection.

Lucy wakes up to a message informing her that she didn’t get her spot with the Philharmonic. However, she realizes that she’s genuinely happy with Grant, and the rejection doesn’t bother her. They decide to attend a convention related to adult content, where they meet adult performer Honey Parker (Leah McKendrick). Fast forward to Jeff’s wedding, where Lucy surprises him by inviting Honey to the event, knowing that he’s a fan. Jeff becomes flustered and concerned about his new wife seeing Honey, so he runs away. Meanwhile, Honey dances with Paul. Lucy then reunites with Grant, allowing her to finally use explicit language in a sentence, in a private and consensual context.
