THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE

*CUT TO THE CHASE*

The film opens on the Comet Observatory. Princess Rosalina (Brie Larson) is with her children, the Lumas, and sits down to tell them the story about Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), but the little stars wanna hear about Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day). They are interrupted by a giant robot called Megaleg, piloted by Bowser Jr (Benny Safdie) and Kamek (Kevin Michael Richardson). Rosalina uses her wand to bring down Megaleg, but it starts to go after the Lumas. She defends her children but is captured by Junior, along with a little yellow Luma.

Mario and Luigi ride their motorcycles to the Sand Kingdom town of Tostarena, where the little skeleton residents say there is a disturbance in the pipes. The brothers investigate a pyramid using fire flowers and meet a dinosaur creature named Yoshi (Donald Glover), who was hatched in Brooklyn but escaped through a warp pipe after people tried to capture him. The brothers take a quick liking to Yoshi and bring him back home with them.

Junior takes Rosalina captive to Planet Bowser, where he plans to harness her power to destroy the universe using a device called a Boomsday Machine. Rosalina musters up enough power to break her binds and free the Luma, sending it to go find Peach, but Junior keeps Rosalina in a glass ball as her prison.

In the Mushroom Kingdom, the brothers prepare to join the Toads to celebrate Peach’s birthday. Mario is nervous about giving Peach a gift since he has an obvious crush on her. He and Luigi go with Yoshi to the party and meet with Toad (Keegan Michael-Key), who is not quite as taken by Yoshi. Mario joins Peach on the roof, as she tells him that it’s not her birthday, but rather the day that the Toads found her and took her in. He gives her the gift, which is a parasol that she enjoys. The two watch shooting stars but witness one crash into the forest. Peach and the brothers investigate and find the Luma sent to find her.

After the Luma explains that Rosalina has been captured, Peach and Toad head to the Gateway Galaxy to rescue her, even though the other Toads think it’s a dangerous mission. She leaves Mario and Luigi in charge of the Mushroom Kingdom. They spend the day taking care of things for the Toads with help from Yoshi, leaving them tired until there is one more thing to take care of.

Bowser (Jack Black) has been coping with being tiny by painting and trying to cope with his anger issues (it’s not working). The brothers pay him a visit as he shows off artwork of himself looking buff next to Peach. The castle is then attacked by Junior, who seeks to free his father. He wields his magic paintbrush weapon, allowing him to take on Mario and Luigi. Junior nearly succeeds in taking the castle with him, but the brothers cause the Megaleg to crash into the ship, dropping the castle back down to the ground on another planet in the Honeyhive Galaxy.

Bowser tricks Mario into hitting him so the effects of the blue mushroom can wear off and he can grow back to normal size. Bowser thinks that he was a bad father to Junior, but after Mario says that he wanted to rescue his dad, the Koopa king tells the brothers that he will try to talk his son out of his evil plans. They journey to the kingdom of the Honey Queen (Issa Rae), who is displeased with the damage the castle crashing has left, but Bowser offers to turn himself in for work so that Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi can be sent away to help Peach. Not long into his labor, Bowser is pulled into Junior’s ship.

Peach and Toad make it to the Gateway Galaxy. Upon seeing an image of Rosalina, Peach experiences a flashback to right before she was sent to the Mushroom Kingdom, seemingly by Rosalina herself. Toad’s stuff is snatched by a thieving monkey, an Ukiki. The two chase it into the sewers and come upon a hidden casino run by a toad gangster named Wart (Luis Guzman). Peach demands to know what he knows over Rosalina’s whereabouts, but Wart sics his henchmen on her and Toad. Peach uses her parasol to fight them off, and Toad dons a penguin suit to fight back. She then eats a mushroom to grow and intimidate Wart into telling her that Rosalina is being kept in the Space Junk Galaxy. After they leave, Wart gets angry and tries to get in touch with Junior.

Junior catches up with his dad and shows off Planet Bowser, something that they had discussed when Junior was little, along with them coming up with the Boomsday Machine. They are then contacted by Wart, who alerts them about Peach.

Peach and Toad try to find someone to take them to the Space Junk Galaxy, but nobody is willing to take the risk. They then meet Fox McCloud (Glenn Powell), a space pilot who got separated from his crew after a series of missions. He agrees to take Peach and Toad to find Rosalina after they pay him, and they are quickly joined by Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi.

The Bowsers catch on to the heroes trying to reach them. Bowser convinces Junior not to kill them, so Junior uses a Super Scope to fire at Mario and Luigi, turning them into babies, while Fox’s ship crash-lands into Fossil Falls. Yoshi and Toad work to keep baby Mario and Luigi safe from a T-Rex before turning them back to normal (and turning the dino into a baby). The heroes are then rescued by the Lumas, who were alerted to their location by Luigi. Meanwhile, Bowser is moved by Junior to return to villainy and command the Koopa army to victory.

The Bowsers charge up the Boomsday Machine using Rosalina’s magic and start to drain her energy. The heroes make it to Planet Bowser and try to sneak past the Koopas. Meanwhile, Peach reads the Lumas’ storybook, which helps her find out that she and Rosalina are sisters who can use their combined powers for goodness. Rosalina had to send Peach away to protect her.

Mario and Peach make it through Junior’s booby-trapped security system. They reach a bridge, where Bowser tries to kill them by wielding two axes. The heroes jump over him, and Mario cuts the bridge and causes Bowser to fall into the lava below. This just turns him into Dry Bowser, the Skull King. With a powered-up Junior, the father and son fight Mario until Luigi and Yoshi show up with powerups to help them. Luigi takes Junior’s paintbrush and creates Mr. Game and Watch, who helps smash Bowser into pieces. Junior gets the brush back and summons the Ruined Dragon, but it eats him. Mario powers up and smashes through the dragon to rescue Junior.

Peach finds Rosalina, but she is too weak to free herself. She convinces her sister to put her hand to the glass so that their powers can come together. It works, and Rosalina is freed. Their powers transform Planet Bowser into a brighter and less grimy place.

The heroes return to the Mushroom Kingdom, only for Mario and Luigi to have to tell Peach that her castle was destroyed. With help from Rosalina and the Lumas, the castle is rebuilt. During their new unveiling ceremony, Peach kisses Mario’s cheek, and he flies up to place a new flag with his signature “Wahoo!”

Mid-Credits Scene: Fox’s ship is fixed up for him to go home after he takes the Bowsers to jail. The two begin trying to escape, but they are caught by Lumalee (Juliet Jelenic), who is now a security guard and disturbs them with how creepy she is.

Post-Credits Scene: Back on the Gateway Galaxy, the Ukiki steals again from a Whittle before getting punched out. The Whittle thanks this person, who turns out to be Princess Daisy.

Bowser Jr kidnaps Princess Rosalina in an effort to rescue his father and destroy the universe by using Rosalina's magic to charge up the Bowsers' Boomsday Machine. Peach and Toad set off to rescue Rosalina after one of her children, the Lumas, tells Peach about her capture. Mario and Luigi, joined by Yoshi, try to maintain the Mushroom Kingdom in her absence, but Junior shows up to wreck the castle. Bowser grows back to normal size and convinces the brothers that he is changed and can talk sense into Junior.

Peach and Toad are told by a gangster named Wart that Rosalina is being held in the Space Junk Galaxy, where Junior has created Planet Bowser. They are joined by Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, as they team up with Fox McCloud to get them to Rosalina. Fox's ship is attacked by Junior, but they are saved by the Lumas after crash-landing on another planet.

Bowser goes back to being evil and commands his Koopa army. The heroes make it to Planet Bowser, where Mario and Luigi face off against Bowser (who has become Dry Bowser after falling into lava) and Junior (who wields a magic paintbrush). Luigi defeats Bowser by taking the brush and painting Mr. Game and Watch, while Junior creates the Ruined Dragon but gets eaten by it and needs to get rescued by Mario. Peach, who realizes that Rosalina is her older sister who sent her away for her safety, finds her and helps combine their powers to free Rosalina and restore things.

The heroes return home and rebuild Peach's castle. The Bowsers are sent to jail, and Princess Daisy arrives in the Gateway Galaxy.
