SISU: Road to Revenge

*CUT TO THE CHASE*

NOTE: This spoiler was submitted by Jeremy

The film opens with a narration about the end of World War II. Finland had to cede some the Karelia territory to the Soviet Union, forcing many Finns out of their homes and onto the Finnish side of the border.

Chapter 1: Home
Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tomilla) and his dog cross into the Soviet side of the border with his travel documents. He goes to the site of his old home, where he used to live with his wife and two sons. Aatami breaks down the wood from the house and gathers to bring it back to Finland.

In a Siberian prison, a Soviet Red Army commander, Igor Draganov (Stephen Lang), is freed from his cell. He is brought to meet with a KGB officer (Richard Brake), who knows that Draganov was responsible for the murder of Aatami’s family, which fueled his rage and turned him into the killing machine known as “Koschei”. The officer offers Draganov payment for finding Aatami and killing him for good.

Chapter 2: Old Enemies
Aatami begins his journey back home with all the recovered wood in his truck. Draganov and his goons track Aatami down and prepare to execute him in his truck. Sensing danger, Aatami quickly kills most of the soldiers, including running one guy over halfway, and then revving his truck up so the guy flies back into Draganov’s windshield. After killing most of the men, Aatami aims his rifle at Draganov but ends up leaving him alone, not recognizing who he is at first. Draganov is met by comrades on motorcycle and continues his pursuit.

Chapter 3: Motor Mayhem
The bikers catch up to Aatami, with one of them managing to shoot him in the cheek (not that it slows him down). Most of the bikers end up crushed, shot, blown up, or even beheaded by Aatami’s methods. An explosion goes off, forcing Aatami to take a detour and put out the fire spreading through the wood. He also takes time to cool the truck down and tend to his wounds. Meanwhile, Draganov orders reinforcements to “unleash hell”.

Chapter 4: Incoming
A few fighter jets come in to go after Aatami. He gets back behind the wheel and briefly hides in a barn, but drives quickly as the jets start to bomb the place. Aatami manages to take one down in the woods by stopping and causing its wing to get clipped, sending the pilot into a fiery crash. Aatami waits until it’s safe and quiet to keep going.

Another fighter pilot comes up on Aatami from the side of a cliff. He manages to evade the gunfire, so the pilot ejects himself and lets the jet fly towards Aatami’s truck. He shoots one of the straps of his truck then hits the brakes, sending a few pieces of wood forward to make a ramp and send the jet back up briefly before it crashes. More jets come and drop bombs on the place, killing the pilot and causing Aatami to drive the truck off the cliff and into the river. The truck is gone, but Aatami gets himself and the dog (and the wood) out of the water. He makes a raft from the wood and comes upon a tank.

Chapter 5: Long Shot
Aatami gathers a ton of explosives as he drives his tank toward the Soviet border, where Draganov and his goons are waiting for him. He picks up speed by spitting fuel into the engine before detonating the explosives, flipping the entire tank over the border and over Draganov’s head. The tank crashes and breaks apart. Aatami lets the dog go free before he is captured, as the KGB wants him alive.

Draganov takes Aatami prisoner onboard a train heading back to Siberia, where he is brutally whipped in the back. Draganov enters and tells Aatami he is the man who killed his family, which he recalls because the only face Draganov ever remembered was that of Aatami’s oldest son, who stood before Draganov to protect his mother and baby brother. Draganov brags about how he chopped them up into pieces and fed them to stray dogs, then tells Aatami that he is an abomination and not some great legend. After Draganov leaves, the fire inside Aatami is reignited, and he breaks free from his binds. He pulls a knife out of his leg that he buried before being captured, and one guard enters to get chopped up by Aatami. The other guard jumps off the train to avoid getting annihilated, only to get killed by a tree. Aatami slicks his hair back with blood, and he gets ready for…

Chapter 6: Revenge

Aatami takes his knife and goes through the train carts of sleeping soldiers, trying to move past them to not wake any of them up. After making it past the first cart, the second one is more difficult. He has to throw a pickaxe at one soldier who spots him, and then stabs to death another in his bed. He makes it out of that cart before the soldier underneath him is woken up by the dripping blood and falling body. In the last cart, Aatami ends up stepping on broken glass after one soldier drops his bottle. Eventually, the soldiers wake up, and Aatami has to start killing them. Draganov, in the cart up ahead, overhears the commotion and uncouples the train, leaving Aatami behind. And then Aatami finds a gigantic missile.

In his cart, Draganov is waiting to collect his payment for getting Aatami. However, Draganov turns on the KGB officer and his men by killing all of them and collecting his money.

Aatami ignites the missile and rides it towards Draganov’s cart, crashing through the windows and getting into a brawl with his nemesis. Draganov puts up a good fight and kicks Aatami back towards the missile. He gives Aatami a chance to “spit out” his last words, but Aatami spits out a bolt that he took off the missile’s holding. The missile comes loose and moves toward Draganov, who runs to the end of the train. The missile drills into Draganov’s skull before it explodes gloriously.

At the Finnish border, Aatami makes it on a cart with all of his recovered wood. He shows his papers to the border guard, who recognizes Aatami and salutes him.

Final Chapter
Aatami is in the process of rebuilding his new home (and yes, he got the dog back). A group of locals approach him with tools, and Aatami thinks they are there to fight him as well. However, one of the men says he looks like he could use some help. Aatami is visibly moved with gratitude, and the men proceed to help.

Following the end of WWII, Finnish ex-commando Aatami Korpi/"Koschei" returns to his old home on the Soviet side of the border to recover the wood from his old home, so he can rebuild it in a new territory. A former Soviet Red Army commander named Igor Draganov, the man responsible for the murder of Aatami's wife and sons, is freed from prison by KGB officials who became aware of Aatami's presence and want Draganov to get rid of him.

Draganov brings several men on motorcycles and planes to go after Aatami, but none succeed or survive. Eventually, one jet runs Aatami off the road, but he recovers his wood and attempts to make it across the Soviet border by flipping a tank over it, but the tank is destroyed, and Draganov has Aatami captured.

Onboard the train heading back to Siberia, Draganov reveals who he is to Aatami after having him tortured. Fueled by a newfound desire for revenge, Aatami frees himself and kills most of the Soviet soldiers before riding a missile to face off with Draganov. After a brawl, Aatami lets the missile crush and blow up Draganov.

Aatami returns to his new home with his dog and the recovered wood. A group of locals approach Aatami to help him rebuild, which he is silently grateful for.
